Over the past several years the obtaining of a visa has become more complex requiring more attention, energy and time.
Many people do not require a visa to enter Greece. These include:
Nationals from countries applying the Schengen acquis in full:
EU countries:
Austria
Belgium
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Italy
Luxembourg
The Netherlands
Portugal
Spain
Sweden
plus associated countries:
Iceland
Norway
These countries follow a common visa policy for short-term stays of up to three (3) months in the Schengen area. The citizens of these countries are not subjected to border controls within the common area (airlines or other carriers require identification – I.D. Card or passport or any other piece of identification issued by a public authority).
Citizens of the following EU and other European countries do not need a visa to enter Greece (and the Schengen area). They have only to produce a passport or an I.D. card at the border.

For holders of regular passports of the following countries who wish to visit Greece (and the Schengen area) and stay up to 3 months (90 days) within a six (6) month period, NO visa is required:

Holders of regular passports from the rest of the world need a visa in order to enter Greece (and the Schengen area)
Due to the large number of requests for assistance to issue entry visas for Greece, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed all Greek consular authorities worldwide to process visa applications submitted by participants to the IGF in Athens (30.10-2.11.06), by priority and on the basis, among other supporting documents, of the accreditation provided by the organizers.
It is to be underlined that Greece is a EU member-state fully implementing the Schengen Acquis and it is therefore bound by the provisions of the common visa policy of the EU. That is to say the examination of visa applications submitted, also in the framework of IGF, will be carried out without prejudice to the full implementation of the rules and procedures provided by this policy.
If you need help to issue a visa for Greece, please contact the IGF Helpdesk and send us your (1) name, (2) surname, (3) nationality, (4) organization, (5) position in the organization, (6) hotel code and (7) city issuing the visa.
We will forward this data to the respective consular authorities of Greece via our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ask them to consider your application, bearing in mind your status and invitation by the UN.
Please contact the Greek consular authority near you to find out about the specific documents that you will need to present. Do not forget to submit the letter you have received by the IGF Secretariat, quote:
“Dear Mr (Ms)….
Your registration form has been processed and you have been registered as a participant at the Inaugural Meeting of the IGF…” unquote.
